A brand new service offered by mobile giants O2 allows customer to purchase tickets for the West End theatre production Lord of the Rings through their mobile phone. It is the first time mobile technology has been used to underpin a large scale ticketing operation.Customers should text LOTR to 2020 to receive a link to the O2 Active Lord of the Rings menu page. From there they can view all the performance times for the show, read profiles of all the major characters and their performers, access Lord of the Rings downloads, register for a chance to win tickets to the show, and finally buy tickets through the ‘Mobile Ticketing’ link.

O2 customers can buy tickets for a special discounted price of £25 for Tuesday evening shows. It’s a little like an online ticketing service. Clicking the buy button takes you through to a screen in which you can choose your performance and you pay using a credit or debit card.It all works impressively well and in just a few clicks I managed to order tickets for the show at Drury Lane theatre in Covent Garden on Tuesday 22nd January.I can view details of my purchase in the ‘my tickets’ section of the mobile box office including seat number and opening times and there’s a unique barcode than I can scan in to redeem my tickets on the night. One day all tickets will be bought this way!
